Indra Group has secured a strategic contract from Skyguide, Switzerland’s air navigation service provider, to modernize the air traffic communication infrastructure at Geneva and Zurich airports through the deployment of an advanced digital Voice over IP (VoIP) communication system.
The project will see the deployment of Indra Group’s state-of-the-art GAREX 300 communication system, designed to improve controller–pilot communications, operational safety, system resilience, and efficiency across Switzerland’s critical air traffic management network. The modernization program further strengthens Indra’s global footprint in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) sector.
Indra Group to Deploy GAREX 300 Communication System in Switzerland
Under the agreement, Indra Group will oversee the complete design, integration, and deployment of the GAREX 300 Voice Communication System (VCS) at two of Switzerland’s most significant aviation hubs: Geneva and Zurich.
The advanced system is specifically engineered for critical operational environments, including:
- Area Control Centres (ACC)
- Control Towers (TWR)
- Approach Control (APP)
- Apron management operations
The deployment will also include centralized coordination of voice communication systems across Switzerland, alongside comprehensive training programs for controllers and technical personnel.
247 Operational Controller Positions to Be Installed
As part of the modernization initiative, Indra Group will deploy 247 operational controller working positions, integrating production systems, testing platforms, and training environments within a unified architecture.
The company stated that the integrated deployment model is designed to ensure:
- Low-risk implementation
- Enhanced operational redundancy
- Improved system availability
- Seamless transition from legacy systems
- Reliable controller–pilot communications from day one
The contract additionally includes a real-time operational validation system and 15 years of support and maintenance services.

The new unified VoIP architecture will enable Skyguide to manage increasing air traffic volumes with improved safety, resilience, and operational efficiency.
